COMÍ

COMÍ is a smart TV ecosystem designed for the kitchen, where users are constantly moving, multitasking, and often unable to interact with a screen in traditional ways. The system combines a TV interface, companion app, redesigned remote, and voice control to support both cooking and entertainment within one connected experience. Through research and testing, we developed features such as cooking mode, split-screen viewing, spoken recipe guidance, timers, and quick controls that allow users to interact with the system without interrupting what they are doing. COMÍ shifts the smart TV from a passive entertainment device into an adaptive kitchen companion that supports users throughout their routines while remaining clear, familiar, and easy to use.

Research, Methods, & Development
COMÍ was developed through an iterative research and testing process that began by understanding how people actually use technology while cooking and multitasking in the kitchen. Our early research helped define the main pain points and design requirements, which were then translated into the system’s information architecture through open and closed card sorting and tree testing. From there, we developed the TV, app, and remote across low-, mid-, and high-fidelity prototypes, testing and refining the experience at each stage. The final prototype brought these touchpoints together with COMÍ AI into one connected ecosystem, which was evaluated using usability and experience methods including SEQ, SUS, and PREMO. Throughout the project, research directly guided the design decisions, helping us create a system that better supports the movement, interruptions, and multitasking that naturally happen in the kitchen.

Full Ecosystem
The COMÍ Smart TV acts as the main hub of the system, bringing together cooking, entertainment, meal planning, notes, timers, and COMÍ AI in one place. The companion app supports tasks that are easier to complete on a phone, such as scanning recipes, managing groceries and ingredients, planning meals, and sending content to the TV. The remote gives users quick access to important functions like Cooking Mode, timers, and COMÍ AI without having to move through multiple screens. COMÍ AI connects the system through voice, allowing users to find recipes, plan meals, build grocery lists, and control the experience while their hands are busy. Together, each part of the ecosystem has its own purpose while still working together to create a connected and easier kitchen experience.
